Definition

The acronym HGH stands for human growth hormone, also called somatotropin. It is a poly-peptide hormone that is part of the endocrine system. It is being secreted into the blood stream by the anterior pituitary gland in a pulsatile manner throughout the day and serves as an instrument in regulating growth and cell reproduction and regeneration. There are many growth hormone studies that have been published during the past two decades. One of the famous studies on the subject dates back from 1990: ”Effects of human growth hormone in men over 60 years old” published by Rudman D. on ‘The New England journal of medicine’. The results of the experiment were astonishing: the treatment group showed improvement in many of the parameters in comparison to the control group over a six-month period:

• mean plasma IGF-I level rose into a youthful range
• 8.8% increase in lean body mass (the mass of the body minus the fat)
• 14.4% decrease in adipose-tissue mass
